2. USES

• For leveling residential and commercial, interior floors, prior to the installation of resilient flooring
• For the following, suitable substrates: concrete that is sound, has cured for a minimum of 28 days and is free from hydrostatic pressure; exterior-grade plywood; ceramic tile
• For the following, suitable floor coverings: ceramic tile and natural stone; engineered or natural hard wood; carpet; vinyl; laminate

 

3. PROCEDURES

General: Block doorways and perimeter of the pour area with foam strips or other means, to prevent underlayment from flowing into adjoining rooms.

Surface Preparation (Concrete): Concrete surface should be solid, structurally sound and rough, to help ensure proper bonding of the underlayment. Some concrete surfaces may require mechanical profiling by shot-blasting or scarifying. See International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) Concrete Surface Profile (CSP) #3 for an acceptable level of roughness. Fill deep holes with SAKRETE fast-patch and allow to cure for 3 hours before applying SAKRETE Self Leveling Underlayment. Thoroughly clean floor to ensure it is free of all dirt, oil, grease, paints, sealers, debris or any other substance that may interfere with bonding. Prime the floor with SAKRETE Concrete Adhesive using a roller, and apply SAKRETE Self Leveling Underlayment while the primer is still tacky.

Surface Preparation (Plywood): Exterior-grade plywood should be solid, structurally sound and meet all industry guidelines. Thoroughly clean floor to ensure it is free of all dirt, oil, grease, paints, sealers, debris or any other substance that may interfere with bonding. Prime the floor with SAKRETE Concrete Adhesive using a roller, and apply SAKRETE Self Leveling Underlayment while the primer is still tacky. A metal lath, meeting the requirements of ASTM C 847, must be installed over the primed plywood prior to the installation of the underlayment.

Surface Preparation (Ceramic Tile): Ceramic tile should be solid and structurally sound. Thoroughly clean floor to ensure it is free of all dirt, oil, grease, paints, sealers, debris or any other substance that may interfere with bonding. Prime the floor with SAKRETE Concrete Adhesive using a roller, and apply SAKRETE Self Leveling Underlayment while the primer is still tacky.

Mixing: Add 4.5 L (1.18 US gallons) to 4.7 L (1.24 US gallons) of cool, potable water into a clean mixing container. Slowly empty the 22.7 KG (50 lb) bag of SAKRETE Self-Leveling Underlayment into the mixing container while mixing with a heavy-duty, 13 mm (1/2”) electric drill and an “eggbeater” mixing paddle. After all of the powder has been added, vigorously mix the material for 2 minutes.

Placing: Prior to pouring, be sure to close all doors and windows, and turn off HVAC systems, until the underlayment has cured. Divide the area into sections to permit a continuous pour without cold joints. Pour material in a continuous strip about 30 cm (1 ft) in width, across the narrow section of the floor. Pour the next bag adjacent to the first pour. Continue successive pours in this manner until the floor is covered. Spread the material using a gauge-rake, over the entire surface, to ensure that the proper thickness is achieved.

4. CURING

Allow newly placed material to set until surface is hard to the touch. Under most conditions, SAKRETE Self Leveling Underlayment requires no special curing. Substrate and ambient room temperatures must be between 10 °C (50 °F) and 30 °C (86 °F) during application and for at least 2 days after installation.

6. OPTIMUM PERFORMANCE

• Use in dry, interior areas only. Do not use when hydrostatic pressure is present.
• Do not use product as a wearing surface. Resilient flooring must be installed over the underlayment.
• Do not use for surfaces that require a slope for drainage.
• Substrate and ambient room temperatures must be between 10 °C (50 °F) and 30 °C (86 °F) during application and for at least 2 days after installation.
• Do not install SAKRETE Self Leveling Underlayment over particle board, chipboard, hard wood, Lauan, Oriented Strand Board (OSB), metal, vinyl, fiberglass or plastic.

8. STORAGE & SHELF LIFE

Material should be stored in a dry, covered area, protected from the elements. Unopened bags have a shelf life of 12 months.

9. SAFETY PROCEDURES

CAUSES BURNS. Do not swallow. Do not get in eyes. Do not get on skin or clothing. Do not breathe fumes. Handle with care. Keep out of reach of children. Wear safety glasses, protective clothing and dust mask. Use only in a well-ventilated area.

FIRST AID TREATMENT: Contains cement, when wet forms a calcium hydroxide solution. If swallowed call a poison control center or doctor immediately. Do not induce vomiting. If in eyes, rinse with water for at least 15 minutes. If on skin, rinse well with water. If on clothes remove clothes. If breathed in, move person to fresh air.
