Fill joints between interlocking pavers, stone, bricks and slabs. For residential and commercial projects. Uses include around pools, patios, pedestrian walks, driveways, parking areas and roadways.

Only use KING PermaSand when the pavers, the substrate, the ground, and the ambient air temperature is above 10° C (50° F) during application and 48 hours after application of KING PermaSand.

Prior to any work, test KING PermaSand in a hidden location, on an area of approximately 60 cm (2 ft) x 60 cm (2 ft).

New Applications:

  1. Install pavers.
  2. Ensure pavers are clean and completely dry prior to application.
  3. Pour KING PermaSand evenly on to surface and sweep over pavers, filling the joints. Sweeping KING PermaSand over a distance greater than 0.6 m (2 ft) long may cause segregation of the material. Compact KING PermSand with a vibrating plate compactor and repeat joint filling if necessary. If areas too small for vibrating plate, use a manual compactor such as a rubber mallet or a vibrating palm sander. Proper compaction is essential to ensure KING PermaSand reaches full strength and durability.
  4. Sweep off excess KING PermaSand to just below the pavers with a fine bristle broom, about 3 mm (1/8”) from the top surface of the pavers.
  5. Be sure to remove excess sand from surface of pavers before wetting by lightly blowing the surface with a leaf blower.
  6. Lightly spray surface with water using a garden hose or other system with a nozzle capable of generating a very fine mist to medium fine mist or shower:a. Begin from the top of a slope to finish at the bottom.
    b. Only mist a maximum area of 16 m² (169 ft²) or areas of about 4 m (13 ft) x 4 m (13 ft) at one time. Do not interrupt or stop wetting procedure. If not using a garden hose, maximum area may be smaller, depending on spraying system. Spray target area completely and evenly, leaving no dry patches while avoiding misting directly the KING PermaSand (Polymeric) joints.
    c. Mist area 2 times for 30 seconds if temperature is between 10 °C and 27 °C (50 °F and 80 °F) at 5 minute intervals and; Mist 3 times for 30 seconds if temperature is above 27 °C (80 °F) at 2 minute intervals.
    d. Ensure wetting of one section is complete before beginning the next section. Overlap sections by 15 cm (6″).
    e. Ensure not to displace sand with water. Do not use water hose with a nozzle that generates high pressure jet or large water droplets.
    f. Do not flood, pool or generate water run-off.
  7. Clean wet paver surface with a squeegee and by lightly blowing the surface with a leaf blower to remove any polymeric residues that may remain. All residues, usually white, must be removed off all pavers before they dry to avoid staining.
  8. Allow the surface to dry before opening to traffic. Protect from rain until set or at least 24 hours at temperatures above 25 °C (77 °F).

Optimal Performance

  • Extra precautions must be used to thoroughly clean polymeric residues from highly textured or rough paver surfaces before wetting of paver surface
  • Use above 10 °C (50 °F)
  • Recommended joint width:

KING PermaSand (Polymeric) “Brown” up to 1.3 cm (1/2”)
KING PermaSand (Polymeric) “Grey” up to 2.6 cm (1”)

25 KG (55 lb) yields approximately 4.6 m² (50 ft²) to 9.3 m² (100 ft²) depending on depth and width of joints and compaction level.

Silica, total quartz 500 mg/kg (rat)

Skin Corrosion/Irritation
May cause moderate or severe irritation based on information for closely related materials.
Serious Eye Damage/Irritation
May cause serious eye damage based on information for closely related materials.

STOT (Specific Target Organ Toxicity) – Single Exposure

May cause severe nose and throat irritation, severe lung injury.
Skin Absorption
No information was located.
May be harmful based on information for closely related materials.

Aspiration Hazard
Can cause lung damage if aspirated based on human experience.

STOT (Specific Target Organ Toxicity) – Repeated Exposure
Causes irritation of the respiratory system. Respiratory tract injury has been observed. Respirable crystalline silica in the form of quartz or cristobalite from occupational sources is listed by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and National Toxicology Program (NTP) as a lung carcinogen. Prolonged exposure to respirable crystalline silica has been known to cause silicosis, a lung disease, which may be disabling. While there may be a factor of individual susceptibility to a given exposure to respirable silica dust, the risk of contracting silicosis and the severity of the disease is clearly related to the amount of dust exposure and the length of time (usually years) of exposure.

Respiratory and/or Skin Sensitization
May cause an allergic reaction (skin sensitization) based on information for closely related chemicals.
